Forgiveness: An Ongoing, Lifetime Practice.
Forgiveness is the foundational force for all
healing. Unfortunately, most people are not taught a proper practice of
forgiveness, and too often when it is presented the reaction is "I don't
have anyone to forgive. I don't hold grudges." That, however, is a very
narrow view of what forgiveness is about. Forgiving is not just about
letting go of anger towards someone else; or not resenting another
person for hurting you. True forgiveness, the kind of forgiveness that
brings healing, comes from the profound understanding and acceptance
that all beings have faults, and in any given moment, are doing the very
best they can with what learnings, insight and skill they have at that
moment. Forgiveness happens when there is acknowledgement, acceptance,
and release of all the pain and suffering caused by actions made through
ignorance.
Forgiveness is not only for forgiving others who have caused us pain; it is also necessary to receive through a humble request for forgiveness from all whom we have hurt as well. And, at an even deeper level, it is forgiving ourselves for all of the thoughts, words and actions, even at the most subtle level, that have caused harm to any other being.
This may sound "complicated" but in truth, the practice of forgiveness does not need to be hard. It needs to be sincere. And it is an ongoing, life long practice.
At the right, you will find a couple of forgiveness practices that you can choose to practice with. Like anything else, forgiveness does take practice ;-). If you are in the midst of a physical or emotional crisis, or working on a healing at any level, a daily practice of forgiveness will transmute energy quickly and effectively to help you make noticeable shifts in your situation.
May these tools be of benefit and useful to you.
